WHAT WE LOVE:
Swiss watch manufacturers don’t let a good story go to waste if they catch any whiff of one of their watches going somewhere interesting on the wrist of someone important that is immediately written into the mythology of the watch.
In the 1950s US Navy Admiral Richard Byrd proposed a series of Antarctic operations, which became known as ‘Operation Deep Freeze’, fortunately for Nivada Admiral Byrd had a fondness for Nivada watches.
This Nivada Antarctic, was one of the first generations of the model and would be an attractive vintage watch even without its backstory. This example was given to L.C Coss in 1961 for 22 years of safe driving for Yankee Lines LTD. Who operated on the US eastern seaboard.
